School Age Child Care

For nearly a century, the YMCA has led the way as the nation’s largest and most respected provider of activities for youth. boy playing with dinosaursWhat makes YMCA so special? For starters, honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring are the cornerstones of every YMCA program. In addition, the Y adds a unique component to help children develop positive identities, values, and social skills. That component is known as “Developmental Assets.” These are 40 essential character building blocks that young people need to grow up to be healthy, competent, caring and responsible adults.

The YMCA of Central Virginia offers programs for youth whether they are in school or out of school.

The YMCA does not turn anyone away for inability to pay. Through our scholarship program, children are able to attend our programs at a reduced rate. There is no reason why children should have to go home unsupervised.

Before & AfterSchool Program

Did you know that more than 30% of children go home after school unsupervised? The YMCA offers Before & After School Programs with a flexible schedule that allows a child to develop in a supervised environment.

Partnering with Lynchburg City, Amherst County, Nelson County and Appomattox County schools, the YMCA is able to offer a structured program that concentrates on character education and allows youth to grow spiritually, mentally and physically.

Before School begins at 6:30 a.m. and runs until the school day begins.  After school runs from the time school is dismissed until 6:00 p.m. This program operates from the first day of school until the last day of school. This program is for children ages 5-12.

Program Registration: $25 per child; or $40 per family

The YMCA School Age program operates on all early dismissals and delayed openings; there is an additional fee of $3.00 per child for these days.

Please note programs offered may vary by school district.
