Policies and Guidelines

The YMCA of Central Virginia has policies in place for the benefit and welfare of our members, guests and our organization.

AGE REQUIREMENTS
Y Facilities
Unless posted otherwise, children seven years of age and older may use the Y facilities without adult supervision. However, children 12 years of age and under must have a parent or guardian on the Y premises.

SWIMMING POOLS
Children nine years of age and older may use Y swimming pools without adult supervision. A parent or guardian must be present at the pool and directly supervising their children under age nine.

SUPERVISING GUARDIAN
The Y will permit children ages 18 and older to be considered the “supervising” guardian for their sibling(s) under the age of 13 when using the Y facilities.

FITNESS AREAS
Children ages 13-15 are permitted in the fitness areas by themselves once they have completed a teen equipment orientation. Sign-up for the orientation is available at the Member Service Center. Until the orientation is completed 13-15 year-olds can only be in the fitness areas when accompanied by an adult. Children 12 and under are not permitted in the fitness areas.

CELL PHONE USAGE
Cell phones are only permitted in designated areas of the YMCA facility. Cell phone use in locker room areas is prohibited.

CHECK-IN/SCANNING CARD
We take the safety and security of our members very seriously. Please check in at the Member Service Center and show your card every time you visit. Lost your card? Have a new one made for just $5!

CODE OF CONDUCT
At the Y, we expect staff, members and guest to behave in accordance with our mission and values at all times, repecting the rights and dignity of others. We demonstrate Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility by:

•Resolving conflicts in a respectful, honest and caring manner. Never resort to physical contact or threatening gestures.
•Speaking in respecful tones and refraining from the use of vulgar or derogatory language.
•Respecting others by refraining from intimate behavior in public; abstaining from contact of a sexual nature.
•Respecting the property of others; never engaging in theft or destruction.
•Creating a safe, caring environment; never carrying illegal firearms or devices.
•Participating in programs to build a healthy spirit, mind and body; never engaging in the use, sale, dispensing or possession of illegal drugs or narcotics, or the unsanctioned use of alcohol on YMCA premises.
Adherence to the YMCA Code of Conduct and regulations is essential. Noncompliance may result in suspension or termination of Y membership privileges.

DAY PASS
Day pass fees are limited to three visits per year. Guest fees may be applied toward membership if used within a 30 day period.  Depending on usage, day passes may not be sold during the months of November through March.

DRESS & ATTRIE
We ask that Y members and guests respect others and dress appropriately at all times while in the facility. We ask that you wear only athletic shoes while in the gymnasium. All other workout areas require proper workout shirt, shorts or pants, athletic shoes and socks.

Clothing must be clean, muddy items are not permitted. Clothing with abusive language or graphics that are offensive is not allowed in the facility at anytime.

GUESTS
Bring your friend or family member to the Y with you! Guests 18 and older must have valid ID. Kids under 16 will be welcomed with an adult. During very busy hours, we may limit guest visits.

GUEST RATES PER VISIT: 
Youth (infant - 19) $5 / Adult (20+) $10/ Family $15.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
The Y building will be closed if a citywide weather emergency is declared, in that event, all programs, classes and building operating hours will be canceled / closed. In the event the Lynchburg City Schools close, every effort will be made to run classes and programs. Make-up classes will not be rescheduled due to cancellation factors out of our control, such as inclement weather. Additional announcements will be made on : WSET-TV, WSLS-TV, WYYD-Radio.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Y staff members are CPR, First-Aid and AED (automatic external defibrillators) trained and certified. Please see a staff member immediately if someone needs assistance. All individuals participate at the YMCA of Central Virginia at their own risk.

MERCHANDISE SALES
Our Front Desks offers a variety of merchandise for sale. Please inquire at the desk for more information and pricing.

PERSONNAL BELONGINGS
Please take special care in locking up all personal belongings in both the locker rooms and in your vehicle. The YMCA of Central Virginia is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

PHOTO NOTICE
The Y occasionally video tapes/ photographs its members and participants in various activities. Some of these photos are used in Y marketing materials, ads or brochures. If you do not want your photo used by the Y please step out of the shot or notify the photographer before the picture is taken.

REFUND POLICY
Refunds on membership will be provided up to the first 30 days of a new membership at a prorated amount. If the Y cancels or reschedules a program, a refund or credit slip will be granted. Also, if a medically verified illness prohibits attendance and is reported to the Y, a credit slip will be issued for future programs. NO MONEY will be refunded. Credits must be approved by the Program Director.

Credits will be issued only in cases of medically verified illnesses or serious injury. An administrative fee is added into the price of each class and will not be included in issuing credits.

SUSPENSION/LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP
Members and guests fighting, using foul/abusive language or other misuse of membership privileges are subject to suspension of membership privileges at the discretion of staff on duty.

TRANSFER POLICY
If you are moving out-of-state, your membership privileges can be transferred to the local Y in your new hometown. When transferring your membership, you will be subject to the policies, procedures and membership rates of the Y to which you are transferring. All transfer request are handled at the new Y.
