HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

Who is a referral buddy?

A referral buddy is a person who enrolled in the 20/20 Buddy Referral program with you because:

  • They joined the Y because of your referral
  • You joined the Y because of their referral

What if I already have a discount applied to my monthly membership fee?

  • The 20/20 Buddy Referral program is for Full Rate memberships. You are welcome to refer new friends to the Y; however, you may not combine the 20/20 Buddy Referral with any other  membership rate discount including, but not limited to:
    • Corporate Discount
    • Employee Discount
    • Scholarship/Financial Assistance Discount
    • Any Discount other than full-rate
    • YMCA Staff Members are not eligible to participate in this promotion
    • If you opt-in to the 20/20 Buddy Referral program you will need to opt-out of any other discount you are currently receiving.

How long is my 20% discount good for?

  • As long as your referral buddy (the member you referred) remains an active member in good standing, you will receive your 20% monthly rate discount.
  • Memberships on Hold and accounts with past due balances are not considered “good standing."

Can I refer more than one person?

  • Yes, you can refer up to two buddies to build a "referral bench."
    • All 3 of you will receive the 20% discount as long as someone on your "bench" stays active.
    • If your primary bench member cancels, you and your remaining bench member will continue receiving the Buddy discount.
    • If your remaining buddy cancels, you will return to the full membership rate after 30 days.
    • Remember, if you secure two buddies for your bench your discount is more secure!
    • If you are still within the recruitment time frame for the 20/20 Buddy Referral program, January 1- March 31, 2024, you can add another buddy and rebuild your bench. If not, you will need to wait for the next 20/20 Buddy Referral program enrollment.

*You can only add additional buddies during the 20/20 Buddy Referral promotion time. Even if you have two buddies, you will only receive 20% off, and multiple buddies still only yield a 20% discount.

I joined from a friend's referral. How do I submit my request for a discount?

  • You will need to collect information from your "buddy," including their first and last name, membership key tag (barcode) number, street address, and email address.
  • This information will ensure that you are accurately linked to your referral buddy. We cannot gather this information for you.
  •  Visit www.ymcacva.org/referafriend to fill out the form in its entirety using the information collected from your friend. We will then email you within 7 business days of receiving your form to verify that you and your referral buddy are eligible to participate in the 20/20 Buddy Referral program.

How long do I have to fill out the referral form?

  • As soon as you and your buddy are confirmed as "referral buddies" your discounted rate will begin on your next draft.

Can two new members join together as buddies? Yes!

  • Bring any brand-new member within the referral period and give the gift of 20% off the monthly membership AND 20% off the joining fee to you and your buddy if both members are new to the YMCA and come in together.
  • If you have a buddy that wants to join and has been a previous member, they must be in good past standing with the Y and have not had an active membership for over 90 days.

What payment options are required to participate?

  • You must have a current EFT or credit card on file and pay your membership dues by monthly automatic draft in order to participate.

When can I expect to see the discount applied to my membership?

  • Once you have submitted your referral form, please allow seven business days for processing. Once approved, your discount will be applied to your next draft which will apply to the following month.

How much time needs to go by between when I was last a member to qualify for the 20/20 Buddy Program?

  • To qualify, you must not have been an active member within the last 90 days.
  • You also must be in “good standing” on your past membership status. Good standing includes no unpaid past dues, fees or write-offs, or membership suspensions.
