A Letter to Our Members

February 1, 2020

Dear Valued YMCA Member, Happy New Yearl The YMCA of Central Virginia is looking forward to a fantastic new decade with our loyal members and dedicated community. What a wonderful year of positive change we had together in 2019!Below is an exciting glance back to 2019:

  • Expansion of the Express YMCA, with two new group fitness studios, a mind and body studio, and a premier training studio for our innovative new program Regymen.
  • Upgraded the aquatics centers at Downtown and Jamerson, with new air handler systems to ensure excellent air quality
  • New HVAC system for the group fitness studio
  • New CTS Functional Studio at the Jamerson
  • New Strength Training Equipment for Jamerson and Downtown coming in April 2020

The YMCA will always stand for healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility for all. We are so much more than a "gym". So that we may stay strong and viable in our community, the YMCA is implementing a $1 5 annual membership fee each May via an automatic draft. This will help to ensure the health of our facilities, in turn helping us to keep our membership rates low while providing you with excellent amenities, programs and services. We are proud to announce that our membership dues have not increased during the past 4 years.

In addition to being a membership-based health and wellness facility, the Y is a strong non-profit organization that uses donor support to help ensure our community outreach is strong and healthy. With the generous help of donations and supporting organizations, the Y was able to expand the following outreach efforts in 2019. Community helping Community!

  • Our Power Scholars Program, which is closing the achievement gap and ensuring children are safe and healthy over the summer, was able to serve 400 kids, an increase of over 1,955% over a six-year period.
  • Our aquatics staff is saving lives "one stroke at a time" by teaching drowning prevention and life-saving swimming skills to over 800 kids right here in our community.
  • LIVESTRONG@ at the YMCA has seen over 60 cancer survivors become stronger, healthier, and more connected post cancer diagnosis.

Thank you for your continued support of the YMCA of Central VA and our mission to provide health and wellness to our community.
