Job Title: Personal Trainer 
Family Center: All
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job

Reports to: Healthy Living Director
Leadership Level: Leader
POSITION SUMMARY: 
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer will assist with the development and implementation of safe enjoyable, and individually prescribed exercise programs for clients. The Personal Trainer will assist respective supervisor with the marketing, development and implementation of the personal training program, as well as keeps them informed of plans, progress and problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1. Interpret, communicate and provide leadership of YMCA mission, goals and objectives to staff, volunteers, members and the community.
2. Participate in membership retention goals and annual giving campaign as requested.
3. Provide instruction on proper form, techniques and safety on strength training and cardiovascular equipment.
4. Designs safe individual exercise programs based on the need, goals and fitness level of member.
5. Starts and finishes each session on time and ends within the established time frame, when possible.
6. Tracks all personal training sessions accurately according to the system that is in place and keeps an accurate time sheet directly related to the tracking system.
7. Notifies Health and Fitness Director of any concerns or challenges related to members or staff.
8. Refers all potential participants to the front desk for registration.
9. Check facility for safety and cleanliness. Report all discrepancies to the Healthy Living Director.
10. Represent the YMCA of Central Virginia professionally (Attire).
11. Personal Training outside of the YMCA of Central Virginia is not permitted (other clubs, homes, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS: 
The successful candidate must hold a current CPR/AED certification and a minimum of one nationally recognized (ACSM, NSCA,
ACE, AFAA or Cooper Institute) personal training certification or exercise science related degree. Less than one year experience as a certified personal trainer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

HOURS: Flexible

  • Required to work two floor shifts per week.
  • Standing and/or walking for long periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying equipment, tools, furniture and supplies up to 50 lbs.
  • Move heavy machines and/or equipment with assistance.
  • Able to demonstrate the use of a variety of cardiovascular and strength training machines/equipment.
  • Ability to perform essential functions which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: standing; sitting; semi-to- full reaching overhead; crouching; kneeling; carrying; twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs
